Smart Ring versus Smart Watch pros and cons …. In today’s fast-paced world, where technology is seamlessly integrated into our daily lives, the quest for balance and well-being becomes increasingly crucial. As individuals strive to manage stress and maintain a healthier lifestyle, the choice between a smart watch activity tracker and a smart ring takes center stage. In this blog, I’ll give you my pros and cons of both options, shedding light on why smart rings might be the better choice for those dealing with burnout or seeking a reduction in stimuli. Here is my opinion on smart rings versus smart watches pros and cons from my practice and my own life.
The Smart Watch Advantage:
Comprehensive Fitness Tracking:
Smart watches typically offer a wide range of fitness tracking features, including heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and workout analysis. This comprehensive data can be valuable for individuals looking to maintain an active lifestyle. I do not wear my watch when sleeping as even on night modus my rest and sleep is disturbed as I ‘see’ the light from the watch screen and the sensors underneath. It wakes me up during the night so that is why I don’t wear it. On the other hand a smart watch can also gently wake you up without disturbing someone sleeping next to you but I would prefer to have that option on a ring.
Large Display and Interaction:
The larger display on smart watches provides a more interactive experience, allowing users to receive notifications, make calls, and even navigate apps directly from their wrists. I wear my Apple Watch on days I like to know what time it is or on days where I don’t mind being disturbed, for example when I need to discretely see messages or notifications regarding my daughter or someone else in my close circle who needs my special attention. I don’t wear my Apple Watch on days I need peace and quiet or during focus work hours, that is where I really want to disconnect from all the stimuli. I advise the same to my clients needing more rest.
Diverse Brand Options:
Well-known brands like Apple, Samsung, and Fitbit dominate the smart watch market, providing users with a plethora of options to choose from, each with its unique set of features and designs. Readers already know I am an Apple addict and prefer the interconnectivity of Apple products. It’s a personal thing combining functions you want or need and style. Tracking of steps is an important part of my method TAKE YOU TIME to get both mentally and physically fit so even while different brands give different results in step counts at the end of the day, they all offer valuable insights on activity patterns. I always advise my clients to not over-focus on the number.
The Smart Ring Perspective:
Subtle and Discreet:
Smart rings, such as the Oura Ring, Ultra Human Ring air, Ringconn, Circular Smart Ring and Motiv Ring, offer a discreet and stylish alternative to the bulkier smart watches. The inconspicuous design is ideal for those who prefer a subtle approach to technology. They are also the better choice if you want the numbers and facts on your phone in the app but without the constant disturbance on your wrist.
Focused Health Metrics:
Smart rings often focus on essential health metrics, such as sleep quality, body temperature, and activity levels. This streamlined approach can be beneficial for individuals seeking a simplified yet effective tracking solution.
Less Screen Time, More Rest:
One of the primary advantages of smart rings for those dealing with burnout is the minimized screen time. Unlike smart watches, which may contribute to information overload, smart rings allow users to receive essential data without constant distractions, promoting a healthier relationship with technology.
Why I am a huge fan of Oura Ring
I am an absolute fan of Oura Ring as I have witnessed positive results with my clients who are seeking better health through more self-care. Oura is focusing on physical health but more importantly on mental health.
Their rings are also beautiful and stylish, I have one in rose gold. They have very good customer support helping you determine size, so your ring fits like a glove. The sizing kit you get with your order helps you make the right size choice.
I love the fact that Oura Ring also warns me off illness so I can take better care of myself to prevent getting sick. It also gently lets me know when it is time to take a break like taking a walk outside, doing some stretching or some activity behind my desk like getting up out of my chair more often. The Oura stress feature helps me take better care of myself during the day. It helps my clients to not wait with self-care till “they have a spare moment”, it helps them take time for themselves before they burn-out. Self-care first is the main foundation of my method and Oura helps with that. Your scores tell you how you and your body really feels. You’ll know when you need more sleep, what your best sleep routine is, when you might be getting sick, when it’s time to push yourself or PAUSE, and it also helps with knowing your own natural cycle when it comes down to women’s health, important when fasting, when you want to know best times for conceiving and hormonal balance. The Oura membership is a great addition as it helps with more personalised advice the longer you use it. A great investment in yourself that pays off.
Choosing the Right Fit:
The choice between a smart watch and a smart ring ultimately boils down to personal preference. Some may prefer the multifunctionality of smart watches, while others value the discreet and focused features of smart rings. I have both Apple Watch and Oura Ring. I wear Oura all the time also in bed, my watch as mentioned above.
Burnout and Rest Considerations:
For clients experiencing burnout or those in need of more rest and less stimuli, a smart ring may be the better fit. The subtle nature of a ring minimizes the potential for constant notifications, fostering a more mindful and restful experience. And if you choose, like me, to wear Oura ring you will also get valuable insights and tips to help relax and prevent burn-out.
Conclusion: smart ring versus smart watch pros and cons.
In the quest for a balanced and healthier lifestyle, the choice between a smart watch and a smart ring is a highly individual one. While smart watches excel in comprehensive functionality and diverse brand options, smart rings offer a discreet and focused approach to health tracking. For those who are grappling with burnout or seeking reduced stimuli, the understated elegance of a smart ring may be the key to achieving a more mindful and restful tech experience. Ultimately, finding the right balance in the digital age is about understanding personal needs and choosing a device that aligns with those priorities. I hope that my article on Smart Ring versus Smart Watch pros and cons gave you some valuable insights.
