How to take care of mental and physical wellbeing at work and in life during the recession

How do you take care of mental and physical wellbeing at work in life during the recession? A question I hear from many CEO’s and Human Resources specialists. First of all… I decided to think about this in my own personal situation and that’s where I took a drastic decision.

I stopped watching the news.

Yesterday I decided to stop watching the news… again. Kind of a strange thing to do for someone who originally has a Master’s degree in Political & Social Sciences. It‘s a (bad) habit I unlearned a long time ago from the master himself Jack Canfield in one of his VIP-retreats in Santa Barbara, California USA and after reading his book “The success principles”. But recently I was a naughty girl, sorry Jack 🙈. I watched the news every single day and even worse, I even checked updates during the day. My excuse? Isn’t there a war going on in Ukraine? Aren’t we in the middle of a recession and gigantic energy crisis? This week I suddenly felt like I had been swallowed by a gigantic vortex of bad economic news. (and my new energy bill didn’t exactly help to raise my good vibes) I started worrying, thinking about worse case scenarios in my business, thought of plans B to Z just in case, … I saw the same thing happening with entrepreneurs, with C-level management friends, with friends and family. We were all in that vortex together panicking, whining, complaining, worrying, …  Sounds familiar? So how do you take care of mental and physical wellbeing at work and in life during the recession?

Get out of the negative recession vibe.

But then I was like: STOP!!! This kind of negative vibe is not at all what I am usually like. Talking about it in a mastermind session with our amazing coach Linda, she said: “you can whine every Wednesday from 2 to 2.15 PM, that’s it”. WOW! A splash of ice-cold water in my face to wake me up. Just what I needed and what others needed during that session… So, instead of whining, I started focusing on how the “recession” can help us grow, thrive and change in our businesses and our personal lives.

And believe me, there are many opportunities, if you are willing to see them.

How to take care of mental and physical wellbeing at work and in life during the recession?

Self-care and wellbeing are the key.

For starters, being in the field of self-care and wellbeing this is a HUGE, GIGANTIC, GINORMOUS opportunity for companies to GROW and CHANGE! HUMAN CAPITAL IN YOUR COMPANY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING! YOU are your most important asset. Every employee you manage is worrying about the economy and in a lot of companies I coach I feel that extra pressure is felt both at work and at home and workload has risen. But let’s change that vibe into something positive. Do not ask where the recession will hurt you and your company, instead ask what the recession can do for you. MY ANSWER: TAKE SELF-CARE AND WELLBEING AT WORK FIRST! This does not apply to employees only but also to you as an individual. Want to help your company and your people to rise above it all while creating opportunities for growth in business? Then invest in wellbeing at work NOW… and don’t forget to start with yourself. Be that change. Be a visionary.
