21 days to Heal Your hair: day 8: The impact of stress on hairgrowth.

 

Hi,

I am Lies Helsloot: entrepreneur (founder of Delphin & Emerence), busy mom and the author of the upcoming book “The complete guide to healthy hair. A 3-step program to heal your hair.” Thank you for joining me on day 8 of “21 days to heal your hair”.

In the first phase of this program I talked about the relationship between hair, health and nutrition. Today we start phase 2: 7 days where I will teach you how to “Take YOU time”.

If you think stress has nothing to do with healthy hair, then think again! Too much stress has a major impact on your overall health and also on your skin and hair. In fact your hair is an important messenger to show you how you feel on the inside. It often is an indication of your stress level. Not dealing with stress in your life can lead to hair loss, since stress makes your body produce cortisol, the stress hormone. That hormone has a profound impact on your body and affects hair growth in a negative way.

That was one of the causes of my own hair problem. 10 years ago I was in charge of my own health food restaurant and combined this with the birth and careof my daughter. Not taking time for myself to decompress, made me lose almost 30% of my hair. In the beginning I only focussed on nutrition and hair treatments to fix my problem, but at some point I had to accept that as long as I wasn’t going to take time to relax and take care of myself, my problem wasn’t going to pass.

With the help of my friend Saskia Winkler, who is a life coach, I discovered that dealing with this, was not only helpful to have a more balanced happy life, but it also helped to heal my hair. So I would like you to go over your last couple of days. Where did you take time for yourself? I mean really take time for yourself? Did you do something that you enjoy? Something that makes you feel good?

If you can’t remember any such moment, then the next days will help you schedule in some time to ground yourself. I will also teach you some techniques to help you do that.
